On Lying – curated by Reilly Davidson
Ethan Assouline, Mimosa Echard, Mia Sanchez, Clara Schmidt, Lea Stuedahl, Julija Zaharijević, Bruno ZhuChristian Torp is delighted to present the group exhibition ‘On Lying’, curated by New York-based writer and curator Reilly Davidson. Showcasing works by seven European artists, the exhibition marks the gallery’s most extensive presentation to date of a rising generation of international artists. ‘On Lying’ connects the practices of Ethan Assouline (b. 1994, FR), Mimosa Echard (b. 1986, FR), Mia Sanchez (b. 1988, ES), Clara Schmidt (b. 1999, DK), Lea Stuedahl (b. 1998, NO), Julija Zaharijević (b. 1991, RS), and Bruno Zhu (b. 1991, PT), considering how these artists probe issues of untruth, fiction, artifice, and what is treated as ‘real’ or ‘unreal’. Across painting, printmaking, sculpture, moving images, and textiles, the artists approach the ‘lie’ through distinct material, visual, and narrative forms.
