Artist Rajat Mondal introduces his current project The Echoes of Resilience II, which explores the impact of climate change on local communities and ecosystems, and points towards the colonial legacies present in the human exploitation of natural resources.
Using burnt tree remains from forest fires and presenting the stories of those affected by them, Mondal traces the links between human activity and environmental degradation. His works can be thought of as archives of both destruction and resilience.
Mondal’s media include drawing, video and sound. In all his works, carbon substances such as charcoal and graphite connect his artistic experimentation with critical environmental concerns.
The presentation will be followed by an open discussion.
e for emergence is a series of art and science dialogues convened by artists Susanne M. Winterling, Rajat Mondal and scientist Kajsa Parding.
