Heidi Øiseth: Loose Ends
Snø galleri is currently presenting Loose Ends, a series by Norwegian artist Heidi Øiseth.
The drawings are created intuitively and are inspired by the interwoven patterns of medieval Celtic knots. The threads and complex patterns become a reflection of fate, suggesting that everything in life is connected.
In Norse mythology, the Norns spun the threads of destiny. The woven patterns and the knots carry meanings of holding on, but they also function as powerful symbols of protection against misfortune and dark forces.Witches were believed to use braided knots of hair to protect themselves, preserve their integrity, bind harmful powers, or tie and untie the bonds of love.
These painstakingly drawn textile-like surfaces therefore carry echoes of the past, while at the same time giving rise to new cycles of life. The warp threads extend downward across the surface until they gradually dissolve into the unknown.
