The exhibition features an installation that forms part of a larger, ongoing work. Using digital Jacquard weaving, the artist engages with composition and materiality as integral elements of the canvas. Løvaasen here explores painting as textile and spatial object by weaving her own canvases. The weaving and the painting thus become two distinct layers of the work, which expands as the painting transitions into embroidery. One side of the weaving depicts the immortal jellyfish Turritopsis dohrnii (representing eternity), while the other holds elements yet to be realized (representing the void). The piece is conceived based on the object’s three-dimensional nature rather than the constraints of a two-dimensional canvas; on both sides, a fictional nebula is composed with stars positioned in the same arrangement as the Spomenik war memorials in the former Yugoslavia. Here, monuments erected in a country that no longer exists appear in the sky like stars that have already burned out.
