BOOK LAUNCH AND MIXTAPE

UKS is proud to introduce Afrang Nordlöf Malekian, the first artist selected through UKS’ open call for social practices. In conversation with Meera M. Kaur, artist and Head of Communications at UKS, Nordlöf Malekian will explore ideals of beauty, identity and the hybridisation of traditions – central themes in his practice.

This event marks the Norwegian launch of Malekian’s new book The Tale of the (Fe)Male Sun, written in collaboration with art historian Nour Helou. Through mythologies, anecdotes, historical facts, Qajar paintings, photographic archives in Beirut, hand-coloured photographs, as well as cassette and vinyl covers, they explore beauty ideals in Southwest Asia and North Africa. What emerges is a narrative of the rise and fall of beauty hierarchies.
