Femtensesse is an Oslo-based gallery representing artists from Norway and abroad with a shared sensitivity to materials, ranging from intricate sculptures on the brink of collapse to the active human body. Established in 2020 at the artist studio complex Ila Pensjonat, the gallery’s early program unfolded across intimate rooms, overgrown backyards, and nearby city streets. Recently relocated to new premises in Sinsenbyen—a functionalist neighborhood from the 1930s—Femtensesse continues to highlight artists who engage with the abject, take risks, and address critical issues such as environmentalism and feminism. Named after an Old Norse term for a ship with fifteen rowing benches, Femtensesse embraces the power of collaboration.
