Half-sisters Lily (Renate Reinsve) and Diana (Helene Bjørneby) reluctantly return to Gran Canaria, where their mother has died under mysterious circumstances.
When the sisters discover that their mother was living a completely unknown life, a journey in her wild footsteps begins. We are taken on a journey from the tourist machine to Gran Canaria's hidden heart—an alternative universe in the Canarian mountains.
Butterfly introduces us to a world rich in color, rituals, and emotions, captivating us with a tone that is both humorous and deeply moving.
Butterfly is a life-affirming and original cinematic experience starring Reinsve and Bjørnebye as the sisters, Lillian Müller as the mother, and Numan Acar as her much younger lover.

The film was shot on location, set in both the "Norwegian Gran Canaria" and environments unknown to most Norwegians.
